Harry E. Roberts, Sr. age 82 of Watertown, SD, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023, at Prairie Lakes Hospital. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Pastor Jerod Jordan will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Watertown, Chapter 1054 Vietnam and Vietnam Era Veterans, and the Funeral Honors Team of the U.S. Navy.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Friday, December 29, 2023 at the funeral home.
Harry was born on January 3, 1941, in Watertown, SD, to Alvin and Irene (Borns) Roberts. He attended Watertown High School, and after he entered the Navy, where he served for 23 years and retired as Chief Warrant Officer.
In 2002, Harry married Virginia Marquez in Watertown, SD. The couple made their home in Watertown, where Harry worked at Terex for 17 years.
He was a member of HOG, Vietnam Vets of America, VFW, and the American Legion in Watertown. Harry served during the Cuban Crisis, Vietnam, Lebanon Crisis, and Desert Storm. During his time in the Navy he served on six different ships in 17 years.
Harry enjoyed riding his motorcycle and the trips he took on it. He enjoyed playing music, camping, fishing, having a cold one, and attending the Sturgis Bike Rally. Harry enjoyed life. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Kranzburg Muzzle Loading Club.
Harry is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Watertown, SD; one daughter, Jeaneath (Jonathon) Calling, of California; three sons, Harry (Connie) Roberts, Jr., of Clear Lake, SD; Terrence (Krystal) Carroll, of Watertown, SD; and Renaldo “Ray” Marquez, of Watertown, SD; one brother, Rick Roberts, of Watertown, SD; two sisters, Diane Hanson and Dixie (Rod) Swoboda, both of Watertown, SD; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jimmy and Gary Roberts; and his grandparents.
