Gene Paulsen, 85, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls, SD. There will be no Funeral Services.
Gene was born in Mitchell, SD, on March 16, 1939 to Raymond and Edrie (Trent) Paulsen. He was raised and graduated from high school in Mitchell. In September of 1959 he lived in Sioux Falls where he married Arlene Gerlach, and had two daughters, Tammy and Kimberly. He then moved to California, and later to Redmond, WA area. In the 1970’s he married Marilyn Webber, and raised two children, Stormi and Jeremy, and a step-son Keith. Gene moved to Watertown in 2006 and in December 2023 he moved to Park Place Assisted Living in Brookings, SD.
He spent the majority of his years working for Asplundh Tree Service in the forests east of Seattle where he built his family log home.
In 1994 Gene suffered a stroke which left him handicapped on his right side. After that he was still able to do amazing woodworking, build remote-controlled airplanes and do wildlife painting using his left hand. Many friends and relatives received his intarsia wood artwork which included Santa and Mrs. Claus sets.
Gene is survived by his children, Tammy Berg, Gordon, WI, Kimberly Gassman, Sioux Falls, SD, Stormi Dieringer, Snoqualmie, WA, and Jeremy Paulsen, Redmond, WA; grandchildren, Taylor, Weston (Brodie) and Carter Dieringer; siblings, Delores Schnarr, Bullhead City, AZ, and Dennis (Susan) Paulsen, Watertown, SD.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Edrie Paulsen, two siblings, Beverly Hanson, Sharon Crelly, and stepson Keith Paulsen.
