Funeral Services for Gaelan Lorick (Bud) Strande, age 91 of Lake Preston will be 10:30 AM Monday, August 26, 2024 at North Preston Lutheran Church with Pastor Brian Ricke officiating. Interment will be in the North Preston Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston and one hour prior to services on Monday. Military honors will be provided by Lake Preston American Legion Post #63. Gaelan passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the United Living Community in Brookings, SD.
Gaelan (Bud) L. Strande was born October 10, 1932 to Anton and Hilda (Olson) Strande on a farm North of Lake Preston, SD. He attended rural school thru the 8th grade.
Bud worked on the family farm till he went into the service. Bud was stationed in Korea and was discharged in 1956. He then returned to South Dakota and continued to farm and help run the Strande & Son’s Minneapolis Moline Implement in Lake Preston.
Bud married Dorothy Carlson on September 8, 1960 in Pipestone, MN. They worked on the family farm together through their entire marriage. In 2021 Bud moved to Aurora to live with Cindy and James Butler where he stayed till he went to United Living Community in Brookings, SD.
Bud enjoyed baseball, working on anything mechanical, auctioning, farming, drawing pictures of Dorothy, spending time with kids and grandkids, watching Westerns! Making sure his “domestic livestock was well fed.
He is survived by two sons, Steven (Shelley) of Lake Preston, SD; Michael of Lake Preston; three daughters, Karen (Dave) Schilling of Bruce, SD; Julie Strande-Pirlet (Reid) of Lake Preston, SD; Cindy Strande-Butler (James) of Aurora, SD; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, parents, Anton and Hilda Strande, siblings, Lorraine Nelson, Darlene Nelson, Aubrey Strande, Caryl Gulbranson, Milton Strande, Lonnie Strande, and his twin, Gaye Dykstra.
