Eugene M. Story

Eugene M. Story, age 90, of Watertown, SD, formerly of Mobridge, SD, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Watertown, SD.  Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Edge Event Center in Mobridge, SD.  

Burial will be at the Green Wood Cemetery, Mobridge, SD. 

Eugene was born on October 7, 1934, in Mobridge, SD, to Floyd and Edith (Stahl) Story. He attended school until the 8th grade. Then he went to work to help support his family. Eugene served in the United States Navy from 1952 – 1955.

Eugene married Margie Laffarty in 1958. He worked at a few places over the years, starting with Johnson Brother Construction, then he went to work for Thompson Trucking. Next, he moved to working for Bader Trucking and Vogel and Sautner Ranch for 30+ years, and lastly for Jim Kessler.

Eugene is survived by his children, Mary Jean (Mark) Nitzkorski of Alaska, Cheryl Kay of Kansas, Patricia (Randy) Buus of Watertown, SD, Leann Schumacher of Rapid City, SD; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter (Patricia) Story and Vernon Story.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, and two children, Clinton Story and Kimbert Redlegs; one sister, Audrey; and two brothers, Gordon and Bob.
