Elizabeth "Betty" Marken

Elizabeth "Betty" Adell Marken, age 82, of Erwin, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in the early morning of Monday, June 24th, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Lake Preston Lutheran Church in Lake Preston, SD. Reverend Marjie Brewton will officiate with music provided by Lynne Brown as organist. Active pallbearers will be Rod Bell, Tim Steffensen, Dale Virchow, Rodney Olson, Glenn Blommel, and Wilson Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers will be the Chit & Chat Club and Betty’s granddaughters, Maci Blommel and Maddie Rodriguez. The service will be live-streamed and recorded via the Crawford-Osthus website.

Burial at Erwin Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Lake Preston Lutheran Church in Lake Preston, SD.

Elizabeth Adell Trenary was born April 3rd, 1942, in Sleepy Eye, MN, to Clarence and Katherine Trenary. In 1945, they moved to Erwin, SD where she attended school. She graduated from Erwin High School in 1960. Betty met her husband, Phillip G. Marken at a dance in Clark, SD, and they were united in marriage later that year on November 5th, 1960. Betty and Phillip were blessed with two daughters, Shellie and Robin.

Betty had a passion for sewing. Her skilled hands brought life to countless creations from intricate quilts that she sewed for each of her daughters and granddaughters to holiday themed placemats and wall hangings, table runners, Dresden plates, Laura Ingalls Wilder outfits for the granddaughters, and so much more. Betty also enjoyed baking sweet desserts for her family and friends, doing puzzles, and tending to her gardens. However, her favorite pastime that she cherished most was spending time with her family. She enjoyed family gatherings with her daughters, granddaughters, extended family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Phil; children Shellie (Rodney) Olson of Lake Preston, SD, and Robin (Glenn) Blommel of Freeport, MN; grandchildren, Maddie (Wilson) Rodriguez of Maple Grove, MN, and Maci Blommel of Greenville, SC; brother, Robert (JoAnne) Trenary of Brookings, SD; sister-in-law, JoAnne of Brookings, SD.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Katherine Trenary and brother, Le Roy (Gene) Trenary.

Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
