Earl Nielsen, 89 of Madison, SD died Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Madison.
Earl Leonard Nielsen was born April 1, 1922 to Jens C. and Frederikke G (Hansen) Nielsen at Tyler, MN. He attended school in rural Tyler and also Ruthton, MN. After completing his schooling he worked for various farmers in the Ruthton and Holland areas.
On November 10, 1942 he enlisted in the Marine Corp and served at Palau, Okinawa and several other areas in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged on December 16, 1945.
On June 20, 1949 he married Henrietta Early. She preceded in death in January of 1963. He later married Juanita Erickson who preceded him in death in July of 1984. He married Estelle Leum in June of 1986 and she preceded him in death in February of 1995.
During his working years, Earl worked for several years at the Holland Elevator, the Holland Liquor Store, he farmed and for many years worked as a carpenter.
He enjoyed hunting and took many hunting trips with friends and with his grandsons, Myron Boyda and Todd Hansen.
Earl is survived by his step-daughter; Gloria (Tom) Barlett. 7 step-grandchildren and many step- great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Enfleld, Alma Johnson, Mildred Weinkauf, Helen (Chuck) Maloney and a brother Roger (Ardis) Nelsen and by his two special grandsons, Myron Boyda and Todd Hansen.
Funeral services for Mr. Nielsen will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington with Pastors Gene and Marilyn Moeller officiating, burial will be in the Arlington City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services.
