Earl E. Nelson, age 76, of Erwin, SD, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at his home in Erwin, SD.
No services will be held at this time.
On November 18, 1947, Earl “Ed” Edwin Nelson was born to Earl Marion and Carrie (Fury) Nelson in Fergus Falls, MN. Ed graduated from high school in Huron, SD, before receiving his Bachelors degree in Business Administration at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. While in Aberdeen, Ed met Lesley (Hanson) and the couple was married on December 21, 1968. Together, they would raise two daughters: Carrie and Tory.
Early in their marriage, Ed and Lesley moved to St. Louis, MO, where Ed would spend 23 years working as a systems engineer at McDonell Douglas. After leaving McDonell Douglas, he worked at Scott Air Force Base for thirteen years. Once Ed’s time on the base was complete, Ed and Lesley made the decision to move back home to South Dakota. They bought a house in Erwin, SD, and opened a kennel where Ed would raise and train hunting dogs. Ed was an avid bowhunter and fisherman, and he loved his home in Erwin where the option to hunt was always nearby.
Ed is survived by his wife, Lesley; daughter, Carrie (Steve) Konenman; four grandchildren: Joshua Hamby, Derek Hamby, Shianne Koeneman, and Cierra Koneman; and four great-grandchildren: Skyland, Westley, Julian, and Emelia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Marion and Carrie (Fury) Nelson; daughter, Tory Hamby; and two brothers, Steven and Donald Nelson.
