Dorothy McGillivary Obituary
Dorothy M. McGillivary, age 97, of Henry, SD, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the local hospital. She was the widow of Ronald McGillivary. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Jeff Ruggles will officiate. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Friday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service. The service will be live-streamed via the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel website.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 5-7 p.m.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in rural Henry. Active pallbearers will be Dorothy’s grandsons: Tim Clyde, Jeff Clyde, Mike Clyde, Craig Ottenbacher, Shawn McGillivary, and Jeremy McGillivary.
Dorothy was born on September 9, 1924, in Rauville, SD, to Arthur and Gladys (Daily) Bevers. She attended school in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1945.
On June 20, 1948, Dorothy married Ronald McGillivary in Watertown. They farmed northeast of Henry, and moved to their current farm in 1981, where they farmed until Ron’s passing. Ron and Dorothy made cabinets and farmed while raising their children. Ron passed away in 2003, and Dorothy continued to make her home on the farm.
She was a former member of Watertown Wesleyan Church. Dorothy enjoyed collecting dolls, doing puzzles, sewing, and shopping at thrift stores.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Lawrence (Lois) McGillivary of Madison, SD, Wanda (Darwin) Clyde of Garden City, SD, and Viola (Charles) Deyo of West Fargo, ND; ten grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters: Mildred Brinkman of Watertown, Barbara Walklin of Colorado, and Joyce Gacke of Arizona.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; parents; granddaughter, Amy Deyo; six brothers; and one sister.
