Dorothy Junkins Iverson, age 97, of Watertown, passed away on October 9, 2023, at Prairie Lakes Healthcare Center. She was the widow of Alvin Iverson. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Pastor Bryce Blank will officiate. Music will be provided by Linda Iverson as pianist with Raigan Johnson as soloist. The funeral service will be live streamed via our website.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and prior to services at the chapel on Saturday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Active pallbearers will be Raigan Johnson, Isabel Johnson, Olive Iverson, Kaylee Iverson, Mason Iverson, Kyler Iverson, Emersyn Iverson.
Dorothy was born in Bryant, SD, to John Marion Junkins and Bernice (Shephard) Junkins on June 14, 1926.
Dorothy graduated from Bryant High School in 1944 and then attended Cadet Nurse Training at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Following an intense 2 ½ years of training, she completed a six-month internship and graduated with a Registered Nurse Degree. She and Al were married on October 16, 1948, at the First Congregational Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Following their move to Watertown, Dorothy worked at Bartron Hospital and later in the nursery at Memorial Hospital. She worked at Bartron Clinic and later served as school nurse in the Watertown School District retiring in 1981 after 16 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. In December of 2019, she retired from 26 years of volunteer service at the Prairie Lakes Healthcare Center welcome desk. Her plaque was inscribed with these words: "You are grace and kindness in an itty-bitty package. Thank you for the gift of you."
Dorothy is survived by her sons Rod (Nancy) of Watertown and Jeff (Linda) of Sioux Falls. Her grandchildren include Diana (Jeremy) Johnson, Mark (Alissa) Iverson, and Kevin (Amy) Iverson. Great-grandchildren include Raigan and Isabel Johnson, Olive Iverson, and Kaylee, Mason, Kyler and Emersyn Iverson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Al Iverson, and her granddaughter Sarah Iverson.
