Dorothy Bull Obituary

Dorothy M. Bull, age 94, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the local hospital.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.  Rev. Luke Smith will officiate.  Music will be provided by Adam Henning as soloist.

Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and prior to the services at the chapel on Friday.

Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Clark, SD.  Active pallbearers will be Dorothy’s grandchildren.

Dorothy was born on January 12, 1928, in Hague Township, Clark County, to George and Reka (Brower) Temple.  She attended 8 years of school in Hague Township and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1946.  Dorothy took a short course of training at Aberdeen Northern Normal and taught school in Hague Township for three years.

On April 10, 1949, Dorothy married Robert W. Bull in Clark, SD.  To this union five children were born. Dorothy worked for Skelgas Appliance Store and Tempo.  She was the program assistant for SDSU Extension Service for four years, and helped Inter Lakes Community Action start meals for the elderly in 1973-1974.  She purchased a home and became a caregiver for six elderly people.

On April 17, 1974, Dorothy married Loel L. Bull in Watertown, SD.  Dorothy was a laundry aide for Jenkins Methodist Home for four and a half years.  She did alterations for Thoro Cleaners, and worked for Harriet Bevers doing alterations for ten years.  Dorothy retired in 1994, and continued doing alterations in her home. 

Dorothy enjoyed making quilts, playing cards and bingo.  She treasured time spent with her family. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for several years before joining the Methodist Church on December 17, 2006.  Dorothy was very active in Grace Lutheran Church Women’s Dorcas Group.  Dorothy and Loel moved to Jenkins Town View Apartments in 1996.  Loel passed away on October 17, 2002.  Dorothy was most recently a resident at Jenkins Living Center.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Robert H. Bull of Watertown, SD, Dianne Wientjes of Shelbyville, TN, Mary (Tom) Henning of Henry, SD, Richard (Jackie) Bull of Sioux Falls, SD, and Betty (Steve) Yexley of Littleton, CO; seventeen grandchildren, twenty four great- grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Delores (Bernie) Strohfus of Rosemont, MN; and brother-in-law, Donald Kropp of Watertown, SD.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert W. Bull, and her second husband, Loel L. Bull; sister, Darla Kropp; son-in-law, Daniel Wientjes; and grandson, Gordy Lyons.
