Diana Joy Lau, age 81, of Summit, SD passed away on Tuesday, June 18th surrounded by her children. Services will be at 10:30 a. m. on Tuesday, June 25th at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Mazeppa Township in Summit, SD.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, June 24th at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Diana was born on May 24 , 1943, to Fay and Andy in Gary, SD. She walked to a rural school near the family farm.
On December 21, 1960, Diana married John "Jack" Lau of Summit, SD. Diana and Jack raised their 5 children and Sharon Buus and ran a successful farm, shop and trucking business. Diana and Jack spent several years traveling to local gun shows in South and North Dakota where Jack created an extensive multi-award winning WWII Collection. Her love of gardening provided a lifetime of spectacular meals and a year’s supply of canned goods for the following year, including her famous pickles and jellies. Later in life she worked at The Drake Hotel and Walmart for over 9 years. Diana loved travels with her children which took her to amazing places like Ireland, Mexico, Hawaii, Las Vegas, California, Florida, Alaska, Branson and the Caribbean. She also enjoyed many trips up north to the cabin and to the lake. Diana’s final vacation was in March of this year with 20 members of her family to Costa Rica where she was able to enjoy many family outings including deep sea fishing and catch some waves with her daughters in the ocean
Diana’s family was the most important thing to her, and she loved spending time with her 5 children, 24 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Diana is survived by her five children, Sandra (Kevin) Gibbens, Apple Valley, MN, John (Deb) Lau Lakeville, MN, Trish (Matthew) Wehling, Prior Lake, MN, David (Wanda) Lau, Watertown, SD, Kristen (Jeff) Wiley, Webster, SD; Sharon (Pat) Scott; brother Howard and sisters Hazel and Bernice.
Diana was proceeded in death by her parents Fay and Andy; husband Jack; granddaughter Jordan; bothers Edward, Kenny, Joe, Phillip and Bernard; and sisters Lillian, Betty and Barbara.
