Deloris Olson Obituary
Deloris L. Olson, age 86, passed away on February 4, 2021, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview facility in Brookings, SD. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the Lutheran Church in Lake Preston, SD. The service will also be available on Facebook live. Vicar Brad Sanderson will officiate. Music will be provided by Lynne Brown. Visitation will be at the Lutheran Church in Lake Preston, SD on Sunday, February 7, 2021, from 2-4 p.m. Active pallbearers are Del Smith, Ross Olson, Rodney Olson, Randy Olson, Rick Olson, and Renae Olson. Honorary pallbearers are Carla Brock, Garnet Volquardsen, Susan Lampe, LaShelle Bruinsma, Brad Nielsen, and the Quilter Anonymous Quilt Guild. Face masks are required at both the visitation and the funeral. There will be a private family burial at the Lake Preston City Cemetery following the funeral service. Deloris was born December 4, 1934, at Arlington, SD, to Jens and Clara (Moe) Nielsen.
She graduated from Arlington High School in 1953.
Deloris married Robert Olson May 12, 1954, in Pipestone, MN.
They lived in Lake Preston where Deloris stayed home and raised her children.
In 1979 she started doing daycare and did that until 1986.
In August of 1987 she went to work as a waitress for Terry's Café and later J & M where she worked until retiring in February of 2008.
She loved all the people that she was able to wait on and make friends with.
Deloris was a member of the Lake Preston Lutheran Church, a 60 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Quilters Anonymous Quilt Guild.
She loved quilting, crocheting, refinishing antique furniture, arts, crafts and loved ALL the rummage sales she could attend.
Deloris was very proud that she was a two time cancer survivor. The family wants to say a huge thank you for the exceptional care Deloris received at The Neighborhoods. Deloris is survived by three sons: Rodney (Shellie) Olson; Randy (Sandy) Olson; and Rick Olson, all of Lake Preston, SD; one daughter Renae Olson, Lake Preston, SD; one grandson, Ross Olson, Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, 1 sister, Jean Nielsen Lovro and 2 brothers: Dwaine and Robert.
