David Lewno Obituary

A memorial mass for David James Lewno, age 56, of Watertown, SD will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2007 in the Immaculate Conception Church, Watertown, SD. Father James Bream will officiate. David passed away on May 14, 2007 at his residence in Watertown. Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Codington County Post # 17 of the American Legion, will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be all of David's family. Music will be provided by Leanne Geissinger, organist and the Immaculate Conception Choir. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 1:00 p.m. to attend the service. Crawford Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements. David was born on March 3, 1951 at Webster, SD to Roman and Sylvania (Snaza) Lewno. David resided with Dorothy and Obed Iverson from 1962 until his graduation from Hazel High School in 1970. After graduation, David entered the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam. David married Cleo Gjerde on July 17, 1976 at Watertown, SD. Together they had three children. Following marriage, David attended Lake Area Vo-Tech's Machine Tool and Die program, graduating in 1978. He worked at Owatonna Tool Company in Owatonna, MN. He moved to Watertown in 1984. He worked as a machinist his entire life, working for Western Machining most recently. David was confirmed at Kellerton United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He also loved raising flowers. People enjoyed his sense of humor and he was well-liked. David is survived by one son, Stuart and his wife, Laura Lewno of Watertown, SD; two daughters, Jasmine and her husband, Richard DeSmet of Minneota, MN and Tiffany Lewno of Watertown, SD; seven brothers: Duane and his wife, Shirley Lewno, of Castlewood, SD, William and his wife, Carleen Lewno, of Forest Lake, MN, Gale and his wife, Cheryl Lewno, of Castlewood, SD, Raymond and his wife, Audrey Lewno, of Watertown, SD, Tim and his wife, Mary Lewno, of Castlewood, SD, Tom and his wife, Lucy Lewno, of Yankton, SD, and Jeff Lewno of Watertown, SD; five sisters: Judith A. and her husband, Vernon Cordell, of Waubay, SD, Elizabeth L. Freeseman, of Watertown, SD, Dorothy Lewno of Rhondo Beach, CA, Eramalinda and her husband, Donald Waggner of Apex, NC, and Sylvania and her husband, Scott Overmyer, of Toronto, SD; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, LaVerne.
