David Casper Obituary

David L. Casper age 84 of Lake Preston, SD passed away Monday, April 10, 2023 at his home, with his family by his side.

Funeral services for David will be at 10:30 AM Friday, April 14, 2023 at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church with Vicar Brad Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery (Hill Church), rural Oldham under the direction of Johnson-Henry Funeral Home. Military honors will be provided by the Porter L. Rich American Legion Post #63 of Lake Preston. Services will be live streamed under David's obituary on our website. www.crawfordosthus.com

David was born January 4, 1939 to Oscar and Nettie (Nelson) Casper, on the farm he grew up on 5 ½ miles south and ½ mile west of Lake Preston. He attended grade school at Baker 5 Country School,  then moved to Evergreen School until he entered high school. He was in a car accident in October of 1954 as they were going to school and never returned to high school. David was in the hospital for 3 months. When he recovered he started farming with his dad.
David was confirmed in the Lake Preston Lutheran Church in 1954. He entered the Army National Guard in March of 1962 he served in DeSmet Guard unit until 1968.

David married RoxAnn Munson August 16, 1963, they were blessed with 4 children Holly, Sharri, Jon, and Barbara.

David was a farmer through and through. He enjoyed being out in the fields working the land. David looked forward to his last corn harvest. He also drove school bus for the Lake Preston School District. Starting in 1968 as a sub for his father-in-law MR Munson, he eventually got his own route and drove until 2013. He missed that job and the kids he met over the years. He also had a corn shelling business. Another hobby he enjoyed was restoring antique tractors. David liked to participate in tractor drives and parades with his antique tractors. David enjoyed 4 wheeling, and side by side rides. David help start the Kingsburg Klassic Krusiers Car Club. David served on the Lake Preston Lutheran Church council, was also a funeral usher and the bell ringer for a number of years. He was on the Baker Township board until his death. David was a very proud American Legion Member for 41 years.

David is survived by his wife RoxAnn of 59 years 7 months and 26 days; his children Holly (Daniel) Bickett, of Oldham, Sharri (Rick) Fuerst, of Tea, Jon Casper, of Lake Preston, Barbara (Rich) Pedde, of Renner; Grandchildren, Tarynn (Samuel) Drummond, Kaylyn (John) Begnaud, Ryker Pedde, Austin Pedde, 2 great grandson’s Kadyx and Tavyn Begnaud, 2 step-grandchildren, Kylie Fuerst, Derrick Fuerst, 2 step great-grandchildren, Jiahna and Leo; one sister, Caren (Roger) Hoyer; one brother-in-law Arnold Wienk; 2 sister-in-laws, Geniece Holm, and Geraldine (Francis) Hofhenke; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard and Roger, sister, Carol Wienk, sister-in-law Virginia Casper, father and mother-in-law, MR Munson and Frieda Munson.
