Darwin Joseph Latt of rural Castlewood, SD died June 25, 2021 at the age of 83.
Darwin was born May 29, 1938, in Watertown, SD to Joseph and Adeline Latt. He attended grade school at Castlewood #3 school which was a country school and graduated from Castlewood High School in 1956. He played football in high school and later was involved in American Legion Post 250 baseball.
He married Kaye Marie Kangas on December 8, 1961 at Estelline, SD. From this union was born four children: LeRoy, Kathy, Ricky and Linda.
Darwin was active in the Army National Guard serving his country for six years.
He enjoyed dirt track racing, farm shows, fairs, traveling the United States, carpentry, watching basketball and football games, fixing anything household to machinery, but his true passion was farming. Darwin farmed for most of his life. After he was married he worked side by side with his wife Kaye whom he also considered his business partner as well. He retired from farming at age 55 and together with Darrell Johnson ran a remodeling business for several years. He continued to live on the farm until his death.
He had a special love for dogs and will be missed for his sound advice and his dry sense of humor.
Darwin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kaye, son Ricky (Julie), daughter Linda (Michael), sister Lana Ronning, brother Roger (Lois), as well as several nieces and nephews. Special mention of good friends Darrell Johnson and Pike Hemp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Steven, and his children LeRoy and Kathy.
