Daniel Powell Obituary
Daniel C. Powell, age 62, of Kranzburg, SD, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at his residence. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Daniel Curtis Powell was born March 12, 1958 to Joseph and Irene (Schwartz) Powell in Ortonville MN. He attended school in Ortonville, MN. During his childhood years he enjoyed spending countless hours of swimming, fishing and hunting with his brothers and sisters. These childhood adventures turned into a lifelong passion. Hunting, fishing, or simply driving down a country road, Dan was happiest when he was one with nature. Dan experienced many employment opportunities throughout his lifetime. His favorite opportunity was assisting with the care and training of many talented hunting dogs at Beck Retriever Kennels.
On October 7, 1995, Dan married his lifelong love Karen Rust. To this union 2 sons were born. Lance in 1996 and Cody in 1999. Dan would spend every available opportunity teaching Lance and Cody about enjoying the simple things in life.... an early morning sunrise, blowing on a duck call, shelling corn to feed the wildlife, watching the ducks and geese take flight or come in for a landing. The list is endless. Dan's proudest moments were when his boys would call him "Dad".
Dan also enjoyed dancing (in his younger years), playing pool, playing cards, watching sports "Go Vikings", All Star wrestling and drinking Diet Mountain Dew. Being a forever free spirit...Dan did things his way.
Survivors include his sons, Lance Powell of Platte, SD, and Cody Powell of Sioux Falls, SD; his former spouse, Karen Powell of Sioux Falls, SD, his brothers: William (Jan) Powell of Ortonville, MN, Richard Powell, Marvin (Dawn) Powell Milbank, SD, Philip (Brannan) Powell of Braunfels, TX; his sisters, Susan (Bob) Cox of El Paso TX, Sadie Madison of Watertown, SD, Gladys Bohn and Jeanette Bray of Milbank, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Irene Powell; his brother, Larry Powell; his sister, Charlotte Goulet; his brother-in-law Ron Bohn; and a very special nephew, Scott Rust.
