Dale E. Bevers, age 93, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the local hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Watertown. Rev. Marlyn Kuper will officiate. Music will be provided by Vicki Krucker as organist with Jackie Wettestad as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are being handled by Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, of Watertown, and the Funeral Honors Team of the U.S. Navy. Active pallbearers will be: Bob Rommereim, Paul Bevers, Kim Bevers, Lawrence McGillivary, Darwin Brinkman and Todd McGillivary.
Dale was born on March 1, 1923, in Rauville, SD, to Arthur and Gladys (Dailey) Bevers. Dale enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 29, 1942, where he was a baker. Following his honorable discharge, Dale hitchhiked to Watertown, where he would meet his future wife.
On August 18, 1946, Dale married Elsie McGillivary in Watertown. They moved to a farm south of Hazel, SD, and lived there before moving to another farm which was also south of Hazel. The couple lived and farmed there until moving west of Watertown in 1978. They moved into Watertown in 1996 and had made their home there since.
After retiring, Dale and Elsie traveled to Texas where they managed a mobile park during the winter months for 15 years. Elsie passed away on July 1, 2015.
He was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Watertown and a former member of Kellerton United Methodist Church in rural Hazel. He was also a member of the Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion in Watertown. Dale enjoyed visiting with family and friends about farming and also attending the sales at the sale barn.
Dale is survived by two brothers: Arthur Bevers Jr. of California and Carl (Sharon) Bevers of Estelline, SD; five sisters: Dorothy McGillivary of Henry, SD, Millie Brinkman of Watertown, Barbara Walklin of Gilbert, AZ, Joyce (Howard) Gacke of Mesa, AZ, and Marlys Womble of Tennessee; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; his parents; and three brothers: Lee, James and Howard.
