Corrine G. Elmore

Corrine Gloria Elmore, age 83, of South Shore, SD, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Avantara Watertown.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at South Shore School in South Shore.  Pastor Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett will officiate.

Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 5-7 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in South Shore. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the South Shore Booster Club, students and faculty of Kidder and South Shore Schools, and all of the staff at Avantara Care Center in Watertown, SD. Active pallbearers will be Amanda Zenobi, Julie Holmen, Jeff Elmore, Steve Van Guilder, Doug Paulson, and Scott Evjen.

Corrine was born on September 17, 1938 to Peter and Vilda (Hoffman) Kothe in Watertown, SD. She attended an Oxford 5 elementary school near Grover, SD, and attended high school in Thomas, SD, and graduated at the top of her class.

Corrine met her husband, Glenn, at Holland Furnace Company where she was the secretary and he was a salesman. They were married April 19, 1958, in Henry, SD. Throughout their marriage they were blessed with two children, Sherry and Kevin. Corrine and Glenn were married for 64 years.

She attended Northern State University and received a bachelor's degree in teaching and elementary education. She taught at Big Stone, Mellette, and Kidder before moving to South Shore and teaching 5th and 6th grade until she retired. She taught in South Shore for 26 years. Corrine taught many kids throughout her teaching career. She also helped her daughter with the South Shore Gazette before taking ownership of it in 2008.

Corrine was very active in her community participating in many community organizations such as Booster Club, Hoe Down Committee, in which she helped organize the first one, the teacher’s association, Hee-Haw Committee and many others.

Corrine enjoyed spending time with her family especially at their lake cabin on Clear Lake near Sisseton, SD. Family was very important to her. She also enjoyed fishing, crafting, baking, playing cards, gardening, bird watching, attending showers as well as various shows and concerts, traveling and dancing. In her later years she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing computer games.

Grateful for having shared her life are her loving husband, Glenn Elmore, of South Shore, SD; son, Kevin (Kaye) Elmore of South Shore, SD; grandchildren: Abby Whitlock of Sioux Falls, SD, Ashley Elmore (Steve Van Guilder) of South Shore, SD, and Alex Elmore of Sherman, TX; sister, Ione Spilde of Watertown, SD; and sister-in-laws: Paula Mack of Watertown, SD, Carol Elmore of Farmington, MN, and Fern (Kruse) Kothe of Watertown, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Elmore; her parents, Peter and Vilda Kothe; her brother, Wayne Kothe; brother-in-laws, Don Elmore, Allen Elmore, Richard Paulson and Kermit Spilde; and a sister-in-law, Karen Paulson.
