Conrad H. Toutges, age 67, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at his residence. Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown, SD. Father Shaun Haggerty will be the celebrant. The organist will be Mary Fox with Julie Kjenstad as song leader. The service will be livestreamed via the Crawford-Osthus website.
Visitation will be prior to the Funeral Mass starting at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be at the South Dakota State Veteran Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD, at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Active pallbearers will be Chris Toutges, Ben Toutges, Scott Toutges, Danny Johnson, Harry Johnson, and Cody Toutges.
Conrad was born on August 25, 1956, in International Falls, Minnesota, to Howard and Irene (Bannert) Toutges. Conrad honorably served in the Navy, a testament to his dedication and love for his country. After his service, he continued to contribute to his community through his work at Lake City Appliance. In November of 1990, he began working at United Hardware in Milbank. In 2003, he joined Terex Utilities, where he remained a valued team member until his well-deserved retirement. His colleagues knew him as a man who could always be relied upon, both for his expertise and his unfailing support.
On February 22, 1995, Conrad married Mary Jane Comedia, and the couple raised two sons.
A tinkerer at heart, Conrad found joy and solace in fixing electronics, a skill that not only served him well in his career but also in his personal life, bringing countless gadgets back to life with his touch. His hands were equally skilled in the art of woodworking, creating pieces that were both functional and beautiful, each crafted with the same precision and care that he applied to all aspects of his life. He also was into photography for a time as a hobby.
Conrad's love for science fiction movies was well-known among his friends and family; he could often be found engrossed in the latest interstellar adventure; his imagination ignited by the boundless possibilities of the universe. His analytical mind was perfectly complemented by the genre's intricate plots and futuristic visions, providing a delightful escape and a source of endless conversation. He also liked documentaries.
Those who knew Conrad were touched by his loving demeanor, a trait that he effortlessly exuded in every interaction. His kindness was a beacon, drawing people from all walks of life and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. His analytical approach to life's challenges was admired by many, as he navigated each obstacle with thoughtful consideration and unwavering patience.
Conrad is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, of Watertown; two sons Christopher and Benjamin Toutges, of Watertown; four brothers, Steve Toutges, of Canistota, SD, Cary Toutges, of Brookings, SD, Scott Toutges, of Louisville, TN, and Vincent Toutges, of Madison, MN; nephews, Vincent Jr., Cody, Michael, Eric, Brandon, and Jason; and one niece, Tammy.
Conrad was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Jerome; one sister, Marianne Mae Toutges; and one nephew, Howard Lee Toutges.
