Clifford S. Brekke, age 77, of Mitchell, SD, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at New Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hayti, SD. Rev. Dave Patterson will officiate. Music will be provided by Heather Opdahl as organist with congregational singing. The family is requested to meet at 12:30 p.m. at the church for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be on Saturday, prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at the New Hope Cemetery, rural Hayti, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Emma Brekke, Ashley Smith and Natalie Smith. Active pallbearers are Austin Brekke, Matthew Brekke, Zach Brekke, Brady Smith and Connor Brekke.
Clifford was born on February 11, 1942, in Watertown, SD. He was a 1960 graduate of Hayti High School and also graduated from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD.
On August 15, 1964, Clifford was united in marriage to Jewel Johnson in Hayti, SD. The couple lived in Dallas, TX, where Clifford worked for LTV as a draftsman engineer. He later worked as a draftsman in Sioux Falls, SD and Mitchell, SD. After his retirement in 2000, they continued to make their home in Mitchell. Clifford enjoyed reading, pheasant hunting, watching TV, storytelling and thinking about and inventing things.
Clifford is survived by his wife, Jewel, of Salem, SD; his children, David (Carolyn) Brekke of Tea, SD and Michael (Lori) Brekke of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Dianne (Dallas) Kannas of Hayti, SD; and one sister-in-law, Peggy Brekke of Niles, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Edward; one brother, Gary; and one sister, Marlys.
