Charlene Jean Wilkins (née Peterson), age 88, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Charlene lived a full life centered around family, community, and faith. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Lutheran Church of our Redeemer in Watertown. Pastor Laura Overbo will officiate.
Visitation will be at the church in Watertown on Wednesday prior to services.
The burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Immediately following the burial will be a meal and light refreshments at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. Pallbearers will be Logan Korthour, Christina Ross, Chloe Larson, and Jack Larson.
Charlene was a devoted homemaker, dedicating her life to creating a loving home for her family and friends. Her commitment to family was evident in everything she did, from her meticulous gardening to her delightful baking, which brought joy to many gatherings. A resident on Lake Kampeska for many years, she cherished her daily walks along South Lake Drive, often stopping to chat with neighbors and friends.
Her community contributions were numerous, primarily through her active involvement in the Lutheran Church of our Redeemer. Charlene volunteered countless hours helping with various church activities including funerals, rummage sales, Sunday school, and lefsa making, among others. Her faith and dedication to her church community were profound, and she played a significant role in enhancing the lives of those around her.
Charlene was a loving grandmother, whose grandchildren and great-grandchild brought immense joy and happiness to her life. She is survived by her daughters, Debra (Dan) Runkle, Sondra (John) Ross, Janene Wilkins, and Amy (James Thomas) Larson; grandchildren, Logan (TJ) Korthour, Christina Ross, Chloe Larson, and Jack Larson; and great-grandchild, Tyce Korthour.
Charlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband Russ, her parents Charles and Grace Peterson, and twin grandchildren, Alexandra and Elizabeth Ross.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Peaceful Pines and to all family and friends who have supported them during this time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of our Redeemer Prayer Garden. The arrangements are being handled by Crawford Osthus Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD.
Charlene's legacy of love, service, and devotion will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate to know her.
