Funeral services for Bert Buyert, age 92, of Watertown, SD will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 in the Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Watertown, South Dakota. Pastor Marlyn Kuper and Pastor Terry Drew will officiate. Bert passed away on May 10, 2007 at a care center in Watertown, SD. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Pallbearers will be: Merle Buyert, Gerrit VanHolland, Vernon "Bud" Hofkamp, Henry VanderWeerd, John Timmer and Wilmer DeRoo. Music will be provided by Marsha Kurtenbach, organist and Pastor Terry Drew, soloist. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Tuesday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Bert was born on December 5, 1914 at Leota, MN to Henry and Wilma (VanderWeerd) Buyert. He attended school at Bemis District #17. Following school, Bert started farming with his brother, Henry. On October 15, 1941, he married Grace Grifhorst at Bemis, SD. The couple farmed in the Bemis area until retiring in 1974. They then moved to Watertown, SD and Bert did carpentry work with his brother, Henry in the Watertown area. Bert was a member of the Bemis-Holland Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday school teacher and held many offices. He was currently a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and a member of the XYZ Club. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering with anything he could. He played pool at the Senior Citizen Center, enjoyed playing the accordion and playing Rook. Bert is survived by his wife, Grace of Watertown, SD; two sons, Harley Buyert of Redmond, WA and Wesley and his wife, Diane Buyert of Bemis, SD; one daughter, Maxine and her husband, DuWayne Krause, of Watertown, SD; three sisters-in-law: Marie Buyert of Dell Rapids, SD, Bernice Schoep of Sioux Center, IA, and Gertrude and her husband, Simon Korver, of Lynden, WA; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry and Gerrit; four sisters: Hattie Nagelhout, Gertrude Nagelhout, Maggie Schoenoven, and Wilma Ghysels.
