Bernard A. Cordell, age 78, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Prairie Lakes Hospital. Funeral mass will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Watertown. Father John Fischer will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Jane Rokusek as Organist. Song Leader will be Julie Kjenstad. The family is requested to meet at the church on Monday by 12:30 p.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the church in Watertown on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and prior to services.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Northeast Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans and the Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown. Active pallbearers will be Galen Cordell, Jerry Shepherd and Larry Shepherd.
Bernard was born on October 1, 1945, in Watertown, SD, to William J. and Delores (Schmidt) Cordell. He attended Watertown High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1964. In January 0f 1965, he served in the Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in July 1970. He then went to work at Minnesota Rubber Company retiring after 40 years of service.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, American Legion, and Northeast Chapter of Vietnam Veterans. He enjoyed his daily breakfast at the Wheel Inn with his buddie, fishing, hunting and bowling.
Bernard is survived by his nephew, one brother, Theodore “Ted” Cordell, Lake Norden, SD; one sister, Teresa Waba, Madison, SD; one sister-in-law, Judy Cordell, Watertown, SD; and many other nieces and nephews.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, William and Delores Cordell; two brothers, Alfred Cordell, Milton Cordell; two sisters, Marian Cordell, Marie Shepherd; and a brother-in-law, Dale Waba.
