Barbara Geyer

Barbara Joan Geyer, age 87, of De Smet, SD, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at her home in De Smet, SD.

On August 5, 1934, Barbara was born to Ruth and Ira Smith in Highmore, SD. After Barbara graduated from Highmore High School in 1952, she moved to Huron, SD. and worked in various office positions before becoming an aide at De Smet High School.

On May 28, 1962, Barbara married Arthur Geyer at the Lutheran Church in Huron, SD.

Barbara loved to sew, play cards, cook, read, travel, and spend time with her family. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Red Hat Society, and Women’s Study Club. She also served on the Museum Board.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Ira Smith, her sister Rosa Diede, her brother Tom Smith, and her son-in-law John Bjorkman. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Geyer, her brothers James Smith, Henry Smith, and Marvin Smith, her children Christina Bjorkman, Bradley Geyer (Carolyn), Becky Geyer, Sam Geyer (Connie), and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at the American Lutheran Church in De Smet on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be Live-Streamed on the Crawford-Osthus website.
