Avis Miller, age 91, of Arlington, died Thursday, May 14, 2026, at home under hospice care.
Funeral Services for Avis A. Miller will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday May 20, 2026, at the Sinai Lutheran Church with Pastor Mindy Spangler officiating, a private family burial will be in the West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery at Sinai. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday May 19, 2026, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel of Arlington.
Avis Bickett was born November,14, 1934 at Madison, SD to Perle and Vella (Meyer) Bickett. She attended grade school in Oldham and then to Madison High School. Avis married Gordon Miller on December 4th, 1950, in Luverne, MN. The couple lived in Sioux Falls SD, and then started farming by Sinai, SD in 1952. Other than being a farmer’s wife, she also worked part-time at Weinks. Avis was an active member of the Sinai Lutheran Church and enjoyed the Ladies Circle, missions, and sewing. She was a member of the cherished “Happy Moments Club.” Avis opened her home to many where warm memories with friends and family were created. Her home was open to those that needed a loving one. Her hobbies at home involved stamp collecting and bird watching from her bird feeders and her dog Lucy. Avis also had a strong faith, a strong love of God, and the deepest love for her family.
Avis is survived by her husband, Gordon, her children; Gary (Deb) of Arlington, SD; Vicky (Ken) Levene of Chancellor, SD; and Jim (Gail) of Sinai, SD. Twelve grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Sister, Alice (Wayne) Johansen of Mankato, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Doris Holland and Margret Schneider; three brothers, Aubry, Stanley, and Lyle Bickett; and her son, Roger Miller.
