Amber L. Engels

Amber Lynn Engels, age 70, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at her residence.  Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.  Pastor Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett will officiate.

Visitation will be prior to the services at the chapel on Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 1-3 p.m.

Burial will be at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.

Amber was born on February 19, 1951, in Watertown, to Joseph and Lucille (Ward) Compton.  She attended Watertown High School, and graduated in 1968. 

On December 16, 1968, Amber married Larry Engels in Watertown.  The couple made their home in Watertown, where Amber waitressed in her younger years.  She was very compassionate about caring for the elderly, and spent many years working in the nursing home and home health care.

In her free time, Amber was providing the best child care ever to her grandchildren, who she was so very proud of.  Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.  She battled with health issues, but always spent as much time as she possibly could with her family, until she became too tired, and was ready to reunite with Lance.

Amber is survived by her husband, Larry, of Watertown; two sons: Larry J. (Peggy) Engels, and Lee (Regan) Engels, both of Watertown; one daughter: Lori (Bob) Gilliland, of Hartford, SD; eight grandchildren: Travis Engels, Devon (Natasha Brotzel) Schlumbohm, Danica (Jeremy) Flannery, Tawny Engels, Kobe Engels, Kennedi Engels, Karter Engels, and Landon Gilliland; six great-grandchildren:  Jaelyn and Talan Schlumbohm, Cooper, Kollyns, and Blaze Flannery, and Kinsley Engels; siblings: Steve (Sue) Compton, and Perry Compton, both of Omaha, NE, Joe Compton, and Roger (Marilyn) Lekvold, both of Minneapolis, MN, Bill (Billie) Lekvold, of San Diego, CA, Dennis Ward, of Sacramento, CA, and Rogene (Ray) Fox, of Bakersfield, CA.

Amber was preceded in death by her son, Lance Engels; siblings: Sandy Trulock, and Robert Ward; and her puppy, Annie.
