Alvin Whisman Obituary
Alvin L. "Al" Whisman, age 63, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Rev. Dick Poppen will officiate.
The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Wednesday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the chapel on Wednesday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Military graveside honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion of Watertown and the Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be: Devlin Benson, Tyler Reis, Jeremy Sederberg, Casey Hanson and Lonie Renolds. Active pallbearers will be: James Whisman, Greg Benson, Vance Reis, Johnny Benson and Wendel Whisman.
Al was born on September 29, 1951, to Gene and Irene (Reeser) Whisman in Bisby, AZ.
Al entered the U.S. Army and served state side during Vietnam.
He was honorably discharged.
On November 7, 1977, Al married Julie Ellis in Auburn, WA. He worked on a ing press in Oklahoma. The couple moved to Texas and later back to Washington.
In 1990, they moved to Watertown where Al worked at Benchmark Foam and most recently at Prairie Stop for the past 14 years.
He enjoyed watching the ‘Star Trek' series and collecting fish aquariums and fixing them. Al loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
Al is survived by his wife, Julie, of Watertown; his three children: James (Sara) Whisman of Goodwin, SD, Jennifer (Greg) Benson and Kelly (Vance) Reis all of Watertown; eight grandchildren: Johnny, Devlin, Jacob and Marley Ann Benson, Tyler and Julia Reis and Cody and sister Whisman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
