Albert "Al" Henry Yalowizer, aged 80, of Bryant, South Dakota, passed away on August 24, 2024. Born on July 7, 1944, in Sheridan, Wyoming, he was the son of Henry Yalowizer and Susan Wondra. Al was preceded in death by his parents.
A graduate of St. Labre Indian School, after high school Al joined the US Navy. He honorably served in the US Navy from 1962 to 1986 while holding the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer(E-8). He did four tours in Vietnam. Throughout his military career, Al held various roles including Boilerman, Military Criminal Special Investigator, and Navy Recruiter. Following his military service, he worked as a VA Boiler Technician, Kiln Operator, and served as the Mayor of Bryant.
Al was a devout Catholic and was actively involved in his church community. His kindness, compassion, and determination were evident in every aspect of his life. He was a loving husband to Charlene Yalowizer, a caring father to Tina (Greg) Weigum and Jake Sams, and a doting grandfather to Larissa Smith, Chance Weigum, Sage Sams, Sierra Sams, Sabra Cope and Seth Sams. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Al's hobbies included tinkering in his shed, camping with his daughter Tina, fishing, gardening, and assisting his son Jake with woodshed repairs. His personality and interests were a reflection of his loving, caring, and compassionate nature, always slow to judge and determined to find truth in every situation.
A small family gathering will be held to celebrate Al's life. The Crawford-Osthus Funeral Home in Watertown, SD, is assisting the family during this time. Al's legacy of kindness, dedication, and service will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
