Adrian Adelman

Adrian Adelman, age 85, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in De Smet, SD.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 1, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in De Smet, SD. Father Richard Baumberger will officiate with music provided by Jamie Gauer as pianist.

Visitation will be held in the hour prior to the service on Friday. There will be no burial at this time.

On September 30, 1938, Adrian was born to Jerome and Erna (Abramoski) Adelman in Ortonville, MN. He was baptized, received his first communion, and was confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic church in Rosen, MN. Adrian attended grade school in Rosen, MN and Vernon in Grant County, SD. At a young age, he quit school to help his dad on the farm located in the township of Vernon, SD.

Adrian’s life was filled with laughter and giggles and BS. He enjoyed teasing his nine sister- four which were older than him and four younger than him, plus his two younger brothers and kid sister, Bev. He was a great mechanic and could fix any car. If he couldn’t get at the part, he would pull the whole engine out to fix whatever and have the engine back in the car within a few hours then off to town in the evening- driving up and down Main Street in Milbank. He loved his fix-it shop in La Bolt where he fixed a multitude of farm equipment for area farmers.

Outside of being a mechanic, Adrian was also a good loader apprentice for the construction companies where he worked. He loved working in the bulldozer and front loader, and he took great pride in the dirt work he finished. Adrian’s skill in landscaping after tree removals was highly requested and insisted upon by many of the local farmers.

Adrian is survived by his wife, Pam (Bau Mausbach); step-sons: Lee Tesch of Milbank, SD, Don Tesch of Milbank, SD, Paul (Angela) Mausbach of Sioux Falls, SD, Scott (Connie) Mausbach of De Smet, SD, Rick (Nicole) Mausbach of Aurora, CO, and Jerry (Brandy) Mausbach of Blooming Prairie, MN; seventeen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings: LaVonne (Conrad) Schuelke of Ortonville, MN, Sharon (Erland) Welberg of Montevideo, MN, Ruth Schuelke of Ortonville, MN, Donna Schell of Toledo, OH, Carol (Roger) Ruth of Coon Rapids, MN, Dale (Pam) Adelman of Milbank, SD, Ken Adelman of Fargo, ND, and Beverly (Ken) Kuefler of Ortonville, MN; special niece, Joan Wollschlager; as well as many more nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Erna (Abramoski) Adelman; sisters: Velma (Ray) Wollschlager, Wanda (Jack) Schuelke, Kay (Ed) Wollschlager; infant twins, Charles and Charlotte; nieces, Tammy Adelman, Lynette Pew, and Shaina Adelman; nephew, Blake Sime; and brother-in-law, Tom Schuelke.
