What To Do
Verdyce (MaryAnn) Wendling, age 89 of Lake Norden, passed away on August 20, 2019. She had recently moved from the Homestead Assisted Living where she spent 7 years and then had a short stay at the Lake Norden Care Center. From there she went to her son’s home for her last days, where she continued on Hospice care until her death. She died surrounded by her loving family and many friends. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in rural Lake Norden, SD. Harold Koistinen and Eric Kangas will officiate.
Visitation will be at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church on Friday from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and also prior to the services on Saturday.
Burial will be at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Norden. Active pallbearers will be: Donovan Wendling, Jeremy Wendling, Wade Johnson, Steven Wendling, Curtis Wendling and Jason Wendling.
MaryAnn was born on November 10, 1929, to Dave and Emma (Kangas) Juntunen. She went to Dixon township country school until 8th grade. Then she stayed in Bryant and completed her high school education. Following her graduation she went to work for Lovre as a legal secretary in Watertown. Later she worked for Austin, Hinderaker and Lovre until her marriage to Dale Eugene Wendling on June 5, 1949. They moved to the family farm where they raised their six children. MaryAnn was a beautiful example of faith, love and striving, always leaning on the traveling staff until her death. She lived what she believed.
MaryAnn is survived by her four sons: Gary (Lynn) Wendling of Bryant, SD, Douglas (Debbie) Wendling of Bryant, SD, Darrell (Poppy) Wendling of Moorcroft, WY and Mark (Karen) Wendling of Bryant, SD; her daughter-in-law, Becky (Craig deceased) of Lake Norden, SD; and one daughter, Dianne (Clare) Johnson of Lake Norden; one sister-in-law, Twyla Gjerde of Watertown, SD; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her son, Craig; her parents, Dave and Emma Juntunen; her brothers, Donald, Curtis and Burton; and two great-grandaughters.
Everyone is welcome back to the church for lunch and refreshments following the committal service.
