Ryan Shawd Obituary
Ryan T. Shawd, age 45, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Prairie Lakes Hospice in Watertown, SD, after a courageous five-year battle with bladder cancer.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown.
Father Paul Rutten will officiate.
Music will be provided by the Immaculate Conception Funeral Choir with Deb Schroeder as soloist and Helen Gollnick as organist. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
In lieu of flowers, any memorials will be invested into Noah and Isaac's college education.
Ryan was born on January 16, 1973, in Chamberlain, SD, to Dennis and Bonnie (Moore) Shawd. In 1983, Ryan and his family moved to Aberdeen, SD.
Ryan graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1992, and then attended college at NDSU. He moved to Mitchell, SD in 1996 where he managed the AmericInn motel. Soon after, he met Jennifer Osterloo and on September 4, 1999, the two married in Mitchell and began to grow their family. To their union, two sons, Noah and Isaac, were born. He then became the Director of Operations under Shawd Management for numerous family-owned motels throughout the Midwest.
In 2002, Ryan went to work for Coca-Cola in Mitchell.
In 2006, Ryan accepted a promotion as Regional Manager and relocated with his family to Watertown, SD where he continued to work until the time of his death.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown. Ryan loved to golf, fish, and hunt with his family and friends. He followed his boys with Arrow football and other sporting activities. Ryan was also a big supporter of SDSU Jackrabbit Athletics. Ryan had a great sense of humor and was always quick to come up with witty one-liners.
Family was incredibly important to Ryan and he put them first, even until his last dying breath. He was caring, hardworking, and heartfelt with all those he knew. Ryan touched everyone he came to know.
Ryan is survived by his wife, Jennifer, of Watertown: two sons, Noah Shawd of Brookings, SD, and Isaac Shawd, of Watertown; his parents, Dennis and Bonnie Shawd, of Bath, SD; two brothers, Steve (Charlene) Shawd of Leo, IN, and Jason (Vicki) Shawd, of Bloomington, IL; brothers and sisters-in-law,
Julie (Loren) Van Overschelde, of Mitchell, SD, Steve (Delores) Osterloo, of Sioux Falls, SD, Barb Grohs, of Mitchell, SD, Carolyn (Chris) Matheson, of Sioux Falls, SD, Randal (Allison) Osterloo, of Sioux Falls, SD, Diane Van Deun, of Martell, NE, and Katie (Jeremy) Morrison, of Mitchell, SD; his mother-in-law, Lila Osterloo, of Mitchell, SD; 20 nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and his dog, Bella.
Ryan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jake and Carol Shawd; his maternal grandparents, Everett and Maybelle Moore; and his father-in-law, Gordon Osterloo.
