Mickey Johnson Obituary
Mickey J. Johnson, age 54, of Brookings, SD, passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Wallace, SD. Pastor Scott Dempster will officiate. Music will be provided Dorothy Anderson as organist with Hannah Jepsen as soloist. Active pallbearers will be Kip Pharis, Mike Lane, Kevin Gulbraa, Chad Frost, Jason Gulbraa, and Ross Keller. The family is requested to meet by 10:30 a.m. at the church on Monday for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD, on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Burial will be at Telemarken Cemetery in rural Wallace, SD, at a later date.
Mickey was born on March 22, 1964, to Orville and Janice (Gulbraa) Johnson in Webster, SD. He was baptized at Grandma Gulbraa's house in Wallace and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church. After graduating from Webster High School in 1982, Mickey worked for various farmers and started his elevator career at the NE Terminal in Watertown, SD. He married Kim Frost on March 18, 1995, and continued to work at various elevators, including as a Branch Manager at West Con. Mickey also worked at Cargill as a risk mediator/consultant and later started his own business, SFN Marketing and Advisory.
He was active in sports and music in high school. As an adult he enjoyed softball, basketball and golf. Mickey had a never ending love for animals, especially Kia and Lucy. He was well known for his quick wit, smile, wisdom and generosity.
Mickey is survived by his mother, Janice Johnson, of Wallace, SD; and three sisters: Julie (Albert) Prado, Sr, of Ft. Laramie, WY, Cindy (Kelly) Hamilton, of Cheyenne, WY and Jenny Johnson (Todd Bistodeau) of Aberdeen, SD.
He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Johnson, on December 1, 2017; his grandparents; and his aunt, Avinal Marble.
