Marilyn A. Fischer, age 82, of Watertown, SD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at a local care center, with her family by her side. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. Rev. Paul Janke will officiate. The family is requested to meet at the church by 9:30 a.m. for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 7, from 5-7 p.m. and also prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Marilyn's grandsons, Ryan Rieffenberger, Brett Fischer, Derek Fischer, Jesse Nygaard, Brent Solum, Kyle Solum and Tyler Fischer.
Marilyn was born on September 8, 1936, to Henry and Sylvia (Hogie) McPeek, in Watertown, SD. She was a 1954 graduate of Watertown High School. On January 28, 1955, Marilyn was united in marriage to Warren Fischer at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. She was a long term employee of Sears and Montgomery Ward Departments stores and also worked at Coldwell Banker.
Marilyn was a faithful member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Women's Bowling Association and Relay for Life. Marilyn enjoyed camping, fishing, church organizations, puzzles and word finds. Marilyn was also a cancer survivor, and will always be remembered for her ability to fight through adversity and still maintain a positive outlook on life. Her favorite poem was titled "Don't Quit". Friends and family were always the most important thing to her, with her greatest pride and joy being her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Celebrating family traditions were the highlight of her life.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Karen Rieffenberger of Brookings, SD, David (Brenda) Fischer of Brandon, SD, Janet (Bob) Solum of Watertown, SD and James (Julie) Fischer of Wiota, IA; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and her brother, LaVerne (Louise) McPeek of Watertown, SD; and one sister-in-law, Alice McPeek of DeForrest, WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; her parents, Henry and Sylvia; her sister, Elaine and her brother, LeRoy.
