Evelyn Agnes Halonen, age 94, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the local hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. Rev. Dan Ofstehage will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist with Judy Everson as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:00 a.m. for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and also prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Lyle Rorvik, Ron Hallauer, Jim Papka, Martin Hand, William Templin and David Hallauer.
Evelyn was born on October 16, 1924, to Frank and Louise (Sonnenschein) Hallauer, in Wallace, SD. She grew up in Wallace and graduated from Wallace High School. On August 24, 1951, Evelyn was united in marriage to Oswald "Ozzie" Halonen in Watertown. Ozzie's success in insurance gave them the opportunity to live in three states and visit seven different countries.
Evelyn was one of the first members of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer when it was established in 1960. She owned and maintained rental homes throughout Watertown for 40 years. She also enjoyed antiques and in younger years she could be found at many auction sales with Ozzie by her side. Evelyn enjoyed time spent with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom will cherish her in their hearts forever.
Evelyn is survived by her three daughters: Rita Dale of Watertown, SD, Sandra (Russ) Sellers of Clinton, UT and Lisa Nelson of Watertown, SD; eight grandchildren: Jenny (Andrew) Foster, Crystal (Thomas) Shoupe, Jared Sellers, Eric Sellers, Cole Sellers, Jessie (Kyle) Olson, Jamie Nelson and Kylie Nelson; eight great-grandchildren: Oliver and Elsie Foster, Lizzie Shoupe, Katana Sellers, Madison and Carter Olson and Drake and Daelyn Nelson; one sister, Phyllis Meseberg of Watertown; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Hallauer of Florence, SD and Lillian Hand of Madrid, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ozzie, in 2005; her parents; two sisters, Charlotte Rorvik and Lavern Papka; and three brothers; Floyd, Everett and Max Hallauer.
