Dorothy Hunter Obituary
Dorothy M. (Mrs. Kenneth) Hunter, age 84, of Hayti, SD, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018, at a local care center. Visitation will be held at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
Dorothy was born on April 25, 1933, to Clive and Meta (Helbing) Schooley, in rural Hamlin County. She was a graduate of Thomas High School, Thomas, SD. Dorothy was united in marriage with Kenneth Hunter on May 27, 1953. Together they farmed and raised their family near Thomas on the Hunter family homestead.
Dorothy was an excellent cook and she loved to bake. She also loved to dance, especially polkas and waltzes. She enjoyed traveling and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of Hayti, SD; her children: Sheryl (Vince) Murphy, Linda (Daryl) Hopkins, Susan (Stan) Kannas, all of Watertown, SD, and Jim (Tammy) Hunter of Hayti, SD; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren ; three brothers: Richard Schooley of Aberdeen, SD, Gerald (Janice) Schooley of Nacogdoches, TX, and Kenneth (Karen) Schooley of Castlewood, SD; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Schooley of Castlewood, Edna Mae Schooley of Aurora, CO, and Jean Grovenburg of Watertown, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 grandsons; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.
