Donald Kluck Obituary

*** PLEASE NOTE THE DATE OF THE SERVICES *** Donald L. Kluck, age 79, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the local hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 19, 2018, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown. Rev. Paul Janke will officiate. Music will be provided by Karen Livingston as organist and Rev. Paul Lindhorst as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church at 1:00 for a family prayer service. Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Sunday, November 18, 2018, from 2-4 p.m. and prior to the services at the church on Monday. Following the service, lunch will be served at the church, where family and friends may gather to enjoy each other's company as we remember Don.

After which, the procession will depart from the church to the burial site at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Rauville, SD.

Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Marine Corps League Kampeska Northeast Detachment 1079.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Marine Corps League Kampeska Northeast Detachment 1079 members and the Watertown High School Class of 1957. Active Pallbearers will be Joel Montgomery, Will Nash, Kirk Schamens, Rodney Stormo, Gary Harr, and David Redinbaugh. Donald was born on February 17, 1939 in Watertown, SD to Emil and Io (Meseberg) Kluck. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1957. Following high school, Donald joined the U.S. Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged in 1960. Donald married Kay E. Mitchell on July 12, 1964 in Yankton, SD. To this union, two children were born. Donald enrolled at Northern State Teacher's College where he earned a B.S. in Secondary Education in 1967. By 1973, he earned a M.S. in both Curriculum & Instruction and Biomedical Communications. Donald taught school in Medford, Oregon before he was a medical photographer at VA hospitals in both Madison, WI and Omaha, NE. Later, he was the Chief of Medical Media at the VA hospital in Chicago, IL and Togus, ME until retiring in 1996. Donald was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking.

Donald was a founding member of the Marine Corps League Kampeska Northeast Detachment 1079. Donald is survived by his wife, Kay, of Watertown, SD; his children, Kevin (Rachel) Kluck, of Mainville, OH, and Erich (Mary) Kluck, of Raymond, ME; two grandchildren, Cady and Elara Kluck; his sister, Jeanette Palelis of Hallandale, FL; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Mydland, of Des Moines, IA, and Donna Harr, of Sioux Falls, SD; and two nieces and 13 nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Io Kluck; his sister, Joyce Redinbaugh and her husband, Rex; his brother-in-law, Pete Palelis; his sister-in-law, Carol Hall and husband, Rusty; and his sisters-in-law's husbands, Stan Mydland and Jack Harr. The family wishes to express gratitude for the care Don received from Dr. Alan Lawrence and the third floor nurses, aides, and other staff members at Prairie Lakes Health Care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots or a charity of their choice.
