Benjamin Andree Obituary

Benjamin "Ben" Douglas Andree, age 26, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Pastor Paul Janke will officiate, with music provided by Carol Janke as organist.

The family is requested to meet at the church on Monday at 2:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 4-6 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Monday. A private family burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.

Pallbearers will be Justin Kallas, Andree Hayes, Nikki Maag, Nate Albertson, Blake Stevenson, and Austin Wichmann.

Honorary pallbearers will be Drew Stevenson, Luke Grotewold, and Eli Grotewold. Ben was born on September 30, 1991, in Marshall, MN, to Douglas and Jill (Grotewold) Andree.

Ben was a lifetime member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church.

He attended St. Martin's Lutheran grade school and graduated from Watertown High School in 2010.

Following graduation, Ben worked as a welder in town until moving to Oklahoma.

In Oklahoma Ben was a welder, a hot-shot truck driver to the oil fields, and even became a cowboy by helping his "adopted" Oklahoma family, the Pursleys, in the rodeo business.

He returned home to Watertown and attended Lake Area Technical Institute, earning a degree in Energy Operations, while working at Brotherhood Arms.

Ben was currently employed as a plant operator at the Big Stone Power Plant. Ben had an amazing gift of being able to talk to just anybody; he was well-liked and could get along with many people.

He was a loyal friend, and he was so good with children; all of his cousins' and friends' kids looked forward to seeing, playing, and jumping on Ben.

Ben enjoyed the game of golf, a sport he had learned from his Grandpa George and his father.

This interest led Ben to work at Prairie Winds Golf Club as a teenager.

Ben loved anything to do with guns, from engaging with the customers at Brotherhood Arms to building firearms and reloading custom ammunition.

He loved doing competitive shooting and had great interest in waterfowl hunting.

Ben is survived by his father, Douglas Andree, of Watertown; one sister, Alexa Andree, of Minneapolis, MN; his paternal grandmother, Maxine Andree, of Watertown; his maternal grandfather, Jerry Grotewold, of Watertown; his aunts, Gayle (Lenn) Kallas, Lisee (Ron) Albertson, and Julie (Eric) Stevenson, all from Watertown; one uncle, Greg (Sandi) Grotewold, of Oakdale, MN; and many cousins. Ben was preceded in death by his mother, Jill Andree; his paternal grandfather, George Andree; and his maternal grandmother, Melva Grotewold.
