Arlo Mann Obituary

Arlo D. Mann, age 82, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Watertown. Rev. Charles Warger will officiate. Music will be provided by Eloise Falk as organist with Jackie Wettestad as soloist.

The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and also prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion and Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Watertown, and the Funeral Honors Team of the U.S. Air Force. Honorary pallbearers will be Arlo's 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Shane Walkins, Colton Ksenych, Dave Wagner and Wesley Holida. Arlo was born on October 10, 1935 in Clark County, SD to Earl P. and Lois M. (Larson) Mann. Following school, Arlo enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Germany, Arlo met Hannelore "Lori" Berg and they were united in marriage on November 24, 1956 in Wiesbaden, Germany. After Arlo was honorably discharged from the U. S. Air Force, the Mann's moved to Watertown. Arlo drove truck for 26 years before going back to school in 1986 at Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown. He graduated in 1987 in Marketing / Management & Sales. In 1998, Arlo and Lori moved to Nevada and resided there for 16 years. While in Nevada, Arlo was the manager at a Senior Mobile Home Park. In 2016, Arlo and Lori moved back to Watertown. Arlo was a member of the First Baptist Church and the VFW. He had an enormous love for the game of chess. He was a key member of the Watertown Chess Club and won numerous tournaments in his lifetime. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, spending time with family and friends and eating good food. Arlo is survived by his wife, Lori, of Watertown; his children: Sonja (Scott) Monson of Fargo, ND, James (Vicky) Mann of Carson City, NV, Tammy (Rod) Odegaard of Wallowa, OR, Heide (Terry) Dale of Watertown, Lore (Todd) Ksenych of Deadwood, SD, and Angie Nogelmeier of Watertown; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maryann Kahl Phillips of Tampa, FL, and Jean (Owen) Meadows of Hot Springs, SD. Arlo was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Mann; and one sister, Joan Orthaus.
