Martin Henry Lohmiller, son of Fred and Caroline Lohmiller, was born on July 23, 1917, on a farm in Elrod Township, Clark County, SD. He was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henry, SD, where he retained a lifelong membership. He attended grade school in Elrod Township and graduated from Henry High School in 1936. Martin then started farming with his father. In 1942, he went to Richmond, CA, and worked in the Kaiser Shipyard. Martin returned to South Dakota and worked for Watertown Community Oil Co.

On June 14, 1947, Martin married Lucille Boehnke and took over the farm in Elrod Township, later buying a farm three miles west of Henry. He farmed until 1986 when he sold his farming equipment. While living there, he taught Sunday School at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, was the church treasurer and treasurer of Elrod Township for many years.

From 1984 until 2000, Martin and Lucille spent their winters in Phoenix, AZ, and their summers back at their farm site, visiting their six children who had scattered six different ways, some as far as Lusaka, Zambia, Africa. The couple moved to Watertown, WI, in 2000, to be near some of their children.

Martin is survived by his children: Ruth (Donald) Gephart of St. Joseph, MI, Delora (Eric) Hartzell of Globe, AZ, Gloria (Gary) Polfer of Big Rock, IL, Joyce (Werner) Schlicker of Lake City, MN, Frederick (Susan) Lohmiller of Thornton, CO, and Beth (Raymond) Schumacher of Johnson Creek, WI; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Robert Boehnke, of Watertown, SD; one sister-in-law, Anita (Carlos) Abraham, of Hazel, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
