Gurine E. Bonen

Gurine E. Bonen, age 74, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at her home and surrounded by her family when she went to greet her Lord and Savior. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Watertown. Fr. Michael Wensing will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Donna Williams as the organist with Blaine Martian as the song leader. The family is requested to meet by 10:30 a.m. at the church for a prayer service.





Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Monday from 5-7 p.m. with a Scripture Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.





Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Paul Bonen, Ariela (Bonen) Matravers, Thomas Strubel, Jonathon Strubel, Logan Bonen, Skyler Bonen and Chance Bonen.





Gurine Elizabeth Goetz was born November 16, 1942, to Adeline (Sahli) and Valentine Goetz in Brown County and raised near Onaka, SD. She graduated from high school at Roscoe, SD.





On October 24, 1964, Gurine married Richard "Rich" Ronald Bonen, her "knight in shining armor." After 53 years of marriage they were still very much in love. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Watertown. Gurine was a trained beautician, seamstress and worked at Shopko as a shipping and retail clerk for 20 years. She valued spending time with her family above all else. We treasured her witty sense of humor, compassionate heart, warm hugs and of course, her fabulous cooking. Our earthly loss is heaven's gain. She will be missed dearly by all who were fortunate enough to know her.





Gurine is survived by her husband, Richard, of Watertown; two sons: Arlyn (Sheila) Bonen of Huron, SD, and Shad Bonen of Watertown, SD; one daughter, Lisa (Scott) Norby, of Brooklyn Park, MN; six grandsons: Paul (Kim) Bonen of Aberdeen, SD, Thomas (Jadviga) Strubel of Winner, SD, Jonathan Strubel of Huron, SD, Logan (Molli) Bonen and Skyler Bonen, both of Sioux Falls, SD, Chance Bonen of Watertown, SD; one granddaughter, Ariela (Will) Matravers, of Frisco, TX; one great granddaughter, Marli Jo (Logan) Bonen; one great grandson, Martin (Thomas) Strubel; and one brother, Val (Leota) Goetz, of Aberdeen, SD.





She was preceded in death by her father; her mother; and her sisters, Catherine (Bill) Johnson and YaVonne (Merle) Larson.
