Darrel Ford Obituary
Darrel D. Ford, age 86, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Fathers' Day, Sunday, June 18, 2017, at a care center in Clear Lake, SD. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Scott Dempster will officiate. Music will be provided by Mary Wika as organist with Robbyn Givens as soloist.
Visitation will take place from 10 to 11:00 a.m. prior to services on Wednesday at the chapel.
Darrel was born on March 9, 1931, on a farm near Hartley, IA, to Albert and Marie (Muilenburg) Ford. He graduated from high school in 1949. He married Claudette Wesphal.
On August 4, 1987, Darrel married Marla Ommen at Las Vegas, NV. He farmed for a short time and sold Fuller Brush, earning several rewards. Darrel was a self-employed insurance salesman for many companies, but most often working with Kentucky Central. He also owned and operated a restaurant in Clark, SD, for a few years.
He enjoyed attending the First United Methodist Church when he was able to. Darrel was active in his early years in the Sportsmen Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and taking care of his yard. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, his grandkids and his dog, Pudgy.
Darrel is survived by his wife, Marla, of Watertown; his six children: Mike (Roxanne) Ford of Thoranton, CO, Steve (Dixie) Ford of Aberdeen, SD, Scott Ford of Denver, CO, Bruce (Brenda) Ford of Prior Lake, MN, and Monica (Thad) Jurgens and Milo (Carol) Ford all of Watertown; one stepdaughter, Jeanne (Randy) Weyen, of Sioux Falls, SD; one stepson, Terry (Sandy) Ommen, of Rapid City, SD; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Ford, of Cedar Rapids, IA; and one sister, Clarice Buntjer, of Worthington, MN.
He was preceded in death by one son, Bradley; his parents; one brother-in-law, Floyd Buntjer; and one sister-in-law, Mary Jean Ford.
