Carol was born on April 22, 1939, to Cornelius and Bessie (Ruesink) Nagelhout, in rural Bemis, SD. After graduating in 1957 from Castlewood High School, she enjoyed taking care of children for an area school teacher. Carol then worked numerous years at the Castlewood Locker, which was followed by 20 plus years of working at Empi in Clear Lake, SD.

She was a member of the Castlewood Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Carol held various offices at the local and district level in the auxiliary. During her four years as district president of the auxiliary, Carol enjoyed attending national meetings in Florida and California. For many years, she co-volunteered to run the concession stand at the baseball field in Castlewood. Carol enjoyed playing softball in her younger years. She also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and attending the Castlewood High School basketball games, but bowling was her favorite pastime. She bowled on a women's league in Hayti, going to many state and national tournaments. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews and their families and attending many of their events.

Carol is survived by four nieces; five nephews, four great-nieces; ten great-nephews; and some great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; three sisters; one nephew; and one great-great-nephew.
