Betty Bunde Obituary

Betty Joan Bunde, age 94, of Watertown, SD, formerly South Shore, SD, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Ray H. Bunde. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown. Rev. Paul Janke will officiate. Music will be provided by Karen Livingston as organist with congregational singing. The family is requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.





Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Wednesday.





Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be Dick Boyd, Terry Boyd, Larry Dahl, Dan Dahl, Dave Edison and Roger Amdahl.





Betty was born on January 11, 1923, in rural Deuel County, SD, to James and Elizabeth (Sonnenburg) Dahl, the youngest of five children, being the only daughter. She was baptized and confirmed at Hidewood Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Estelline, SD.





On November 20, 1943, Betty was united in marriage to Ray Harold Bunde. This union was blessed with two daughters, Sharon Rae and Jean Kay.

For over 40 years, the couple farmed together north of Watertown. Betty and Ray were members of Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Shore. Betty lived on the farm and enjoyed the fruits of their labor until the death of her husband on August 5, 1990.





After moving to Watertown in 1990, Betty became a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the Ladies' Mission Group and enjoyed volunteering at Good Stewards, Inc.(GSI) thrift store.





Betty is survived by her daughters, Sharon Rae (Dean) Wartenbee of Sioux Falls, SD, and Jean Kay (Larry) Gillies of Aberdeen, SD;

three grandchildren: John Wartenbee, David (Chrissy) Gillies and Sarah (Derrick) Kuntz; five great-grandchildren: Jackson Wartenbee, Max Wartenbee, Tessa Gillies, Tyler Gillies and Kason Kuntz; and many nieces and nephews.





She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, of 48 years; her parents; four brothers: Milton, Charles, Elmer and Lester Dahl; and numerous brother and sisters-in-law.





The family wishes to give special thanks to all of her caretakers at 200 Maple Place, Jenkins Living Center and the pastors at St. Martin's Lutheran Church.
